Does mammography make a difference in breast cancer prevention? 

• Numerous randomized trials and population-based evaluations of screening mammography have clearly shown that early detection of breast cancer through mammography greatly improved treatment options, the chances for successful treatment, and survival. • Lakeview Health System has digital mammography vs. analog mammography.

Why is that important to know?

• Digital mammography takes an electronic image of the breast and stores it directly in a computer, allowing the recorded data to be enhanced, magnified, or manipulated for further evaluation. Film (analog) mammography units use film to both capture and display the image. The sensitivity of film (analog) mammography is somewhat limited, particularly in women with dense breasts (a population at higher risk for breast cancer).
