Abnormal Bleeding

Are your periods too heavy? Are you bleeding too much or too often?

Many women experience abnormal vaginal bleeding or spotting between periods sometime in their lives. Vaginal bleeding is considered to be abnormal if it occurs:

when you are not expecting your menstrual period
when your menstrual flow is lighter or heavier than what is normal for you
at a time in life when it is not expected, such as before age 10, when you are pregnant, or after menopause

Fortunately, there are a variety of treatments for abnormal bleeding - you do not have to suffer through ongoing heavy periods and irregular flow.

At the Stillwater Medical Group Women's Center our gynecologists will discuss with you a variety of options, from medication to new procedures, that can be done right in our clinic office. And, for some women, hysterectomy may be the appropriate decision. Make an appointment with your doctor to discuss your options.

Endometrial Ablation (Her Option®, Novasure, Thermachoice)
New medical advances provide quick and easy treatment for heavy bleeding right in your doctor's office.

Endometrial ablation is the removal or destruction of the endometrium (lining of the uterus). These new techniques can be performed in your doctor's office in less time and less cost than a hospitalization procedure. Most women return to normal activities in a day. Ablation can be a desired alternative to hysterectomy for many women with heavy uterine bleeding who wish to avoid major surgery.

Introducing Her Option® at the Women’s Center at Stillwater Medical Group

There are many things that unite us as women, but there is one thing that truly bonds us: our period.

When is a period considered problematic?  What are the causes?  And, what are the treatment options? Many women suffer from heavy and problematic periods. Now you can experience a life free of heavy periods, without a major operation and in the comfort of your doctor's office.

Her Option® is a permanent treatment option that uses sub-zero temperatures (cryoablation) to reduce or eliminate excessive menstrual periods. The cold temperatures destroy the endometrium (your uterine lining), which is responsible for menstrual bleeding. When the endometrium is eliminated, there is less tissue to shed each period, and therefore, dramatically less or no menstrual bleeding.

Not only is Her Option® safe and effective, it is the only endometrial ablation process available in the comfort of your doctor’s office rather than a hospital or surgical center. There is no need for general anesthesia or sedation and you are on your way home within an hour, and back to normal activities by the next day!

At 24 months, 91% of patients were very or extremely satisfied with treatment results.1

A full 96% of patients would recommend Her Option® to a friend.1

If you intend to become pregnant, you would not be a candidate for Her Option® because the procedure destroys the endometrial lining that must be intact during a normal pregnancy. Her Option also is not recommended for patients with uterine cancer, an active urinary tract infection, pelvic inflammatory disease, an IUD or some types of uterine abnormality.
